Actress Gemma Arterton almost quit her role as a Bond girl opposite Daniel Craig in 2008's Quantum Of Solace - after a movie executive belittled her "common" accent. The star was cast as agent Strawberry Fields in Craig's second 007 outing, but she almost walked out when one American film chief warned her that if she carried on talking in her native accent she would only ever be cast as a maid. She tells GQ magazine, "I said, 'Hello! I'm playing a Bond girl who works for the British consulate!'

Clint Eastwood's upcoming 80th birthday will be celebrated in America with a marathon of his movies. Bosses at the Turner Classic Movies channel will show Eastwood's movies back to back for 24 hours, and debut The Eastwood Factor, a new documentary about the actor/director's career, narrated by Morgan Freeman. Films like Dirty Harry, Magnum Force (1973), Where Eagles Dare, Kellys Heroes and Hang Em High will be aired throughout the day from 6am on 31 May (10).

Val Kilmer is set to play another music great in a biopic about Crimson & Clover hitmaker Tommy James. The actor, who played Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors, is in talks to portray James in a new film based on the singer's autobiography, Me, The Mob And The Music.
