Connery voted greatest British hero
Sean Connery isn't quite over-the-hill yet, with a recent survey commissioned by Thorpe Park revealing that for many Britons he is their 'greatest British hero'.
Although the robust Scot's position at the top of the list is not in question, the validity of a greatest ever heroes' poll that includes
Jamie Oliver,
Ant And Dec and Ricky Gervais certainly has to be.
Mr Connery has obviously found favour with the British public for heroic roles such as Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez in
Highlander, John Mason in
The Rock,
Jim Malone in
The Untouchables and possibly someone else, who doesn't quite spring to mind at the moment…
Ok, and of course as James Bond.
In what seems a far more accurate piece of polling, by Sony Pictures and Empire Magazine, Mr Connery's appearance as James Bond in Goldfinger beat Pierce Brosnan's in Goldeneye to get the best Bond film award.
Elsewhere in the poll Ursula Andress was voted best Bond girl for her performance as Honey Ryder in Dr No, Blofeld was named best villain and the Lotus Esprit from
The Spy Who Loved Me was named best gadget.
Completing the top five Bond girls were,
Famke Janssen in second place, Jayne Seymour, who played Solitaire in Live And Let Die in third, Halle Berry as Jinx in Die Another Day in fourth and
Lois Chiles as Holly Goodhead from
Moonraker in fifth.
