CASINO ROYALE introduces JAMES BOND before he holds his license to kill. But Bond is no less dangerous, and with two professional assassinations in quick succession, he is elevated to "00" status.Bond's first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar, where he is to spy on a terrorist, MOLLAKA (Sebastien Foucan). Not everything goes to plan and Bond decides to investigate, independently of MI6, in order to track down the rest of the terrorist cell. Following a lead to the Bahamas, he encounters DIMITRIOS (Simon Abkarian) and his girlfriend, SOLANGE (Caterina Murino). He learns that Dimitrios is involved with LE CHIFFRE (Mads Mikkelsen), banker to the world's terrorist organizations.Secret Service intelligence reveals that Le Chiffre is planning to raise money in a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro at Le Casino Royale. MI6 assigns 007 to play against him, knowing that if Le Chiffre loses, it will destroy his organization.'M' (Judi Dench) places Bond under the watchful eye of the beguiling VESPER LYND (Eva Green). At first skeptical of what value Vesper can provide, Bond's interest in her deepens as they brave danger together and even torture at the hands of Le Chiffre. In Montenegro, Bond allies himself with MATHIS (Giancarlo Giannini), MI6's local field agent, and FELIX LEITER (Jeffrey Wright), who is representing the interests of the CIA. The marathon game proceeds with dirty tricks and violence, raising the stakes beyond blood money and reaching a terrifying climax.

The worst Bond

Lisa from N Wales, 13th June, 2007

Not a classic Bond..in fact in my opinion its the worst one i've ever seen (and i've seen em all). A lacklustre story, no drama, no plot, bitty, no memorable bad guy, no gadgets, no memorable bond girl. The action scenes were even less believable than previous bonds. I'm afraid the Bonds have taken a step backwards for me. However, Daniel Craig was good and well suited to action but not so good as a ladies man. (Roger Moore for that)

A New Direction

Satine from , 30th November, 2006

A far cry from the days of Roger Moore's arched eyebrow and safari suit, Daniel Craig brings a depth and menace to Ian Fleming's vision. Casino Royale contains enough improbable gunfights and aerial stunts to satisfy the traditionalists but dispenses with the wisecracks and cheekiness in favour of a pared down and therefore more riveting story. Craig has stepped into the role of the fledgling 007 with style and confidence and has already made it his own. He suits the grittier, more violent story and has introduced a raw magnetism to the role that hasn't been seen for a long time. Absolutely fantastic.

SICKEST JAMES BOND MOVIE YET

HOT MALE from BURY ST EDMUNDS., 17th November, 2006

This movie is good, beyond good, even great. Theres no over the top Pierce Brosnan garbage, just straight old school espionage. I love the Bourne Identity but it's got nothing on Casino Royale. You get to see the beginnings of James, he was just a cold ruthless killer with no regard for human life starting out before he gained 007 status. You get to see the transformation into the hero we all love by the end of the movie. To top it off Daniel Craig is a far better actor than those playing Bond before him except for maybe Sean Connery, the other actors cant even make a descent movie without being Bond, take Pierce for example. Check it out, you'll love it, I did.

A bit of a let down

A Customer from Blackpool, England, 13th April, 2007

I went into this film with high hopes, but sadly they were not met. Daniel Craig was a first class Bond but the rest of the film was a let down. Eva Green was not up to the job, neither looking as sensational as the part required, nor could she deliver the lines. There were some humourous lines that fell flat because of her lack of acting ability, and the viewer never got a chance to understand why Bond fell for her. The gambilng scenes lacked drama if you didn't understand the rules, which i don't, so the central part of the film became boring. Overall the film was too long by 30 minutes.

Best Bond film ever

LKD from , 8th March, 2010

I'm not a huge fan of James Bond films generally but I really liked this one. Quite a gripping story with a few twists. Good acting. Good action and chase scenes (although unrealistic at times as with most modern films). Would recommend renting even if you are not a Bond fan.
